GRATE AMERICAN SLEEPOUT
Due to the updated restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (corona virus), The ‘Grate American Sleepout’ which was rescheduled for May 1st, 2020 and the Nelson’s Chicken fundraiser scheduled for April 22nd are both canceled. Continue taking precautions to keep yourself and others around you to stay safe.
Coordinated Assistance Ministries, Inc. in partnership with other local entities that provide services to the homeless, will sponsor the “Grate American Sleepout.” This event is a homeless simulation activity designed to increase awareness of what it would be like to experience homelessness. The evening will include assignment of an identity, learning about the different agencies that provide assistance locally, a meal provided by the Red Cross, and sleeping in a box outdoors for the night. In the morning, breakfast and debriefing will take place at Kokomo Rescue Mission.
Our goal is to have 20 youth groups participate. Each individual participant is asked to obtain donations and complete a pledge list with donors supporting them for their participation. The proceeds for this event will support the work of CAM in providing services including transportation, furniture donation delivery & pickup, case management, hygiene kits, and other supportive services to those in need.
There is a link to download the flier, pledge sheet, and schedule for the evening below. Please consider having a group of youth from your church participate in this activity. Families, teams, scouts and individuals are also welcome! There will be a prize for the participant who collects the most donations and a trophy for the group with the most participants. Contact me at the number below with any questions.
Thank you and God bless,
