C.A.M, INC. In operation since May of 1993
In May 1993, Coordinated Assistance Ministries, Inc. (CAM) was officially founded with a $1,000 gift from a volunteer to cover the first month’s operational costs. From its inception, CAM has stood as a symbol of hope and transformation for individuals experiencing homelessness and financial instability.
Our logo—the Dove of Peace carrying a ribbon that reads, “Out of the Dark – Into the Light”—was drawn by a CAM client. He shared that the design reflected his personal journey and healing through the support he received at CAM.
CAM’s roots go back to 1989, when Jean Lushin launched the Center Township Trustee’s Drop-In program. As the community's needs evolved, Lushin advocated for the relocation of the homeless day shelter to a church-affiliated base to support the creation of a Representative Payee Program. Many individuals were receiving income but remained homeless due to financial mismanagement. This ministry remains essential today—CAM currently serves over 68 families through its Payee Representative services.
The name "CAM" was proposed by a task force of church leaders, including Rev. Nick Block, to reflect our mission to coordinate efforts and fill in the gaps—meeting the needs of individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Like the mechanical “cam” in an engine, our organization helps make things happen.
From the beginning, CAM has consistently served over 1,000 clients per year, building a reputation as both a resource and a family for many in our community.
Please pray that the outreach ministry of CAM, Inc. will continue to be a ministry of “as you are helped, so you are blessed to help another.”
